Since 2001 our church, like many others, have benefited from a VAT exemption scheme for repairs to buildings under the " Listed Places of Worship" (LPW) scheme. This exemption is due to finish at the end of March 2011, and there is no indication from the new government that it will be continued. Given that VAT will increase to 20% from January 1st 2011, this means that if the scheme is not extended any repairs we undertake will cost us 20% more. (or we will only be able to do 20% less)

What can you do?

The Diocese has linked up to a national scheme to try to protect this benefit and a national online petition to have the scheme extended has been set up.
